Oversize Legal Dimensions

Oversize legal dimensions can differ from state to state. The same goes for permits, as discussed on our Oversize Permits page. So, a permit in one state will not necessarily be valid in another, nor will the truck or freight be defined in the same way. It’s important to understand what category your load fits into, because as we discussed on our Oversize Escort Regulations page, and on the Oversize Permits page linked above, the way your load is categorized will determine how smooth your journey will go, how long it will take, how much it will cost and how many permits you need.

To help you through this thick red tape, we have compiled all of the oversize legal dimensions on this page.

Oversize Legal Dimensions

Below you will find the oversize regulations for 49 states (excluding Hawaii), with an emphasis on oversize legal dimensions. This information is updated regularly and should be relevant at the time of reading. However, you are advised to check with the local laws and to only use the following as a guide. That’s because oversize legal dimensions are changing all of the time, and what follows is only an outline of these. There may be exceptions or restrictions concerning certain weights, certain routes and certain roads, and as these can make a huge difference to you, your load and your carrier, it’s important to understand just what they are.
