Oversize escort regulations are a complex beast. As with all oversize rules and regulations, they change from state to state and they are not straightforward. The width and the length has to be taken into consideration, and in some states the route itself is also considered.
To help you through this, we have compiled a list of all state oversize escort regulations.

What follows is a complete list of 49 states (Hawaii is not included), each one of which contains up to date oversize escort regulations. We do our best to keep this list up to date and to ensure it is accurate, but you should still double check with local laws and never take any of the following information on face value. Alabama
Length: For more than 85′, 1 escort is required. For anything over 105′ in length, 2 escorts are needed.
Width: For more than 12′, 2 escorts are needed.
There are also oversize escort regulations for anything with a certain length of overhang.
Alaska
Length: Anything over 85′ in length, 1 escort needed; anything over 100′ in length, 2 escorts needed.
Width: Over 10′, 1 escort; over 12′, 2 escorts; over 14′; at least 3 escorts.
Arizona
Length: Anything over 120′ in length, 1 escort required.
Width: Over 14′ in width, 1 escort required.
Arkansas
Length: Anything over 100′ in length, 1 escort; anything over 130′ in length, 2 escorts.
Width: Anything over 12′ in width, one escort; over 14′ in width, two escorts.
California
Length: Some routes require 1 escort for over 100′ in length; all routes require 1 escort for over 120′ in length.
Width: Some routes require 1 escort for a width of less than 12′. Most need 1 escort for this width. Some routes require 2 escorts for 13′, while over 16′ requires at least 3 CHP escorts.
There are also oversize escort regulations for anything with more than a 25′ front or rear overhang.
Colorado
Length: Anything over 110′ in length, 1 escort.
Length: Over 15′ in width, 1 escort.
Connecticut
Length: Anything over 100′ in length, 1 escort; anything over 130′ in length, 2 escorts.
Width: Anything over 12′ in width, 1 escort; over 14′ in width, 2 escorts.
Delaware
Length: 90′ or more, 1 escort; 100′ or more, 2 escorts. A police escort is needed for anything over 120′.
Width: 13′ or more, 1 escort; 14′ or more, 2 escorts. A police escort is needed for anything over 15′.
Florida
Length: For anything over 95′, 1 escort is needed.
Width: Over 12′, 1 escort; over 14′, 2 escorts. Anything over 15′ may require a police escort.
Georgia
Length: Over 100′, 1 escort; over 125′, 2 escorts.
Width: These oversize escort regulations change depending on the journey.
Idaho
Length: Over 100′, 1 escort.
Width: Over 12′, 1 escort; over 14′, 2 escorts; over 16′, 3 escorts.
Illinois
Length: Over 110′, 1 escort; over 145′, 3 escorts. Police escorts may be needed for anything over 200′.
Width:Over 14.6′, 1 escort; over 16′, 3 escorts. Police escorts may be needed for anything over 16′.
Indiana
Length: Over 110′, 1 escort. Police escorts may be needed for anything over 130′.

North Dakota
Length: 1 escort for anything longer than 120′.
Width: Laws differ depending on the road, but typically 2 escorts are needed for anything over 16′.
Ohio
Length: 1 escort for anything longer than 90′.
Width: 1 escort for anything longer than 13′; 2 escorts for over 14.6; police escorts for over 16′.
Oklahoma
Length: 1 escort for anything longer than 80′; 2 escorts for over 100′. These apply to 2-lane highways. Other roads may have different oversize escort regulations.

Length: Over 120′, 1 escort required.

Pennsylvania
Length: Over 90′, 1 escort required; over 160′, police escort required.

Virginia
Length: Over 120′, 1 escort required; over 150′, 2 escorts.
Width: Over 12′, 1 escort required; over 14′, 2 escorts; over 16′, 3 escorts.
Washington
Length: Anything over 125′ requires 1 escort.
Width: Over 14′, 1 escort. Anything over 16′ may require more, but is judged according to each individual case.
West Virginia
Length: Over 95′, 1 escort; over 100′, 2 escorts.
Width: Over 12′, 1 escort; over 14′, 2 escorts; 15′, 3 escorts. Anything over 16′ is judged based on the journey and the roads taken.
In West Virginia, the overhang and the height is also taken into consideration.
Wisconsin
Length: The length typically does not come into play where this state’s laws are concerned.
Width: Over 15′, 1 escort.
Wyoming
Length: This is determined on a case by case basis.
Width: Over 14′, 1 escort is needed. Anything considered much wider than this may need additional escorts, as determined by the State Highway Patrol.
